What started as a small discussion with Rtn. Past Presidents G.K. Selvarajan and the late Rtn. Thiagarajan one morning in December 1997 in my house over coffee, paved the way for the creation of a new Rotary Club. Being formed by Rotary Club of Anna Nagar, it was decided to have some association with Anna Nagar and hence the name Chennai Towers after the famous tower, the iconic landmark of Anna Nagar.
What started with humble beginnings with just 19 members in April 1998 and Chartered on 10/06/1998, Rotary Club of Chennai Towers grew in stature to be rated among the best Clubs in the District 3230 (then), now 3232, consistently over the years. Today we are a family of 56 Rotarians.
As the years rolled by, the Club grew from strength to strength under several dynamic Presidents who ensured that RCCT was a Club that set high standards in anything that we did.
While we had high camaraderie among the members, the Service Projects done during the past 2 decades touched the lives of over several hundred thousand of the under privileged people of Society, be it Health Care, Disease Prevention, Polio Eradication, Basic Education and Literacy, Economic and Community Development among many others.
During the last 24 years of our journey in Rotary, we showed that Rotary cares in 1998, followed our Rotary dream in 1998, acted with consistency, credibility and continuity in 1999, created awareness and took action in 2000, showed that mankind is our business in 2001, sowed the seeds of love in 2002, and lent a hand in 2003, we celebrated Rotary in 2004, made Service above self in 2005, led the way in 2006, and showed that Rotary shares in 2007, we made dreams real in 2008, and ensured that the future of our Rotary was in our hands in 2009. We built communities and bridged continents in 2010, while we reached within to embrace humanity in 2011, we created peace through service in 2012, and engaged Rotary and changed lives in 2013, we lit up Rotary in 2015, and was a gift to the world in 2016, we served humanity in 2017. We made a difference in 2018, we connected with the world in 2019, while we opened opportunities in 2020, we will continue to be change-makers in 2021.
And the journey continues.
